Thomas Herbert Alexander
July 12, 1933 - November 4, 2016

Thomas Herbert Alexander, 83, widower of Faye Hill Alexander went to be with his Lord Friday Nov. 4, 2016 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC with his loving family by his side.

Born in Abbeville, SC he was a son of the late George Pierce Alexander and Janie Waters Alexander.

Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army with over 33 years of service having retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. He served his country with tours overseas in Germany. Upon retirement from the military he started a successful career in the textile business having worked over 34 years in maintenance with Milliken Textiles.

Thomas was also very active in his community having served as a Volunteer Fireman with the City of Abbeville Fire Dept for a number of years where he was a former chief. He was active and a former Chief Director with the Abbeville Rescue Squad for a number of years. He was an active member of Westside Baptist Church for over 60 years. He was fondly known in the Abbeville community as the “Pump Man”as he could repair anything. He will be missed by his loving family and his many friends.

Survivors include a daughter Barbara Ann Campbell (Billy) of Athens, Georgia; two sons Curtis Alexander (Tina) of Abbeville, SC and George Alexander (Angela) of Loganville, Georgia; five sisters Virginia McCarley, Sara Grimes and Caroline Cobb (Mike) all of Abbeville, SC, Juanita Mayfield of Greenwood, SC and Nancy Heirs (Robert) of Walterboro, SC; one brother John Robert Alexander (Roxie) of Abbeville, SC; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded death by two brothers William “Bill” and Haskell “Hack” Alexander and a sister Mary Jane Rosser.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Nov. 6, 2016 at 3:00 PM in Westside Baptist Church with the Rev. James Long officiating. The burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
