Carolyn Jean Gibson Irby
Ms. Carolyn Jean Gibson Irby of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at her home in Burkesville, having attained the age of 68 years, 4 months, and 19 days. She was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on Tuesday, June 15, 1948, the daughter of Albert Waldon and Mabel Myers Gibson.

Jean was a talented entertainer. She started singing as a child and was a regular performer at Renfro Valley. The only thing that matched her musical talent was her ability as a cook. She was a member of Burkesville First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association.

She completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Campbellsville College and her Master’s Degree and Rank I at Western Kentucky University. She was a school teacher for the Adair County Board of Education and the Cumberland County Board of Education, beginning her teaching career in 1970 and retiring in 2001.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Jo Lynn Gibson. She is survived by her daughters, Micaela Elizabeth (and Eric) Riemer of Glasgow, Kentucky, Laurel Jenae Irby (and David Feuston) of Burkesville, Kentucky, her brother, Freddy Gibson of Breeding, Kentucky, three grandsons, Finnegan Rhys “Finn” Feuston, Maddox Crewe Irby-Feuston, and Rhett Michael Riemer, her Step-Mother, Mildred Gibson of Campbellsville, Kentucky and her best friend, Vanda Jo Morgan of Burkesville, Kentucky.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Burkesville First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Fudge Cemetery in Breeding, Kentucky. The family will receive friends after 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, until the funeral hour on Sunday.

In lieu of Flowers the family would appreciate contributions to a memorial Scholarship fund and may be left at the funeral home. Norris-New Funeral Home of Burkesville, Kentucky is honored to be in charge of funeral arrangements"
