Lily was 101 years old. She was born on January 13, 1915; she was the daughter of the late Leonard Weese Cook (1876-1956) and Josie Calloway-Bell-Cook (1881-1942).
In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband Albert "Doff" Young (1914-Deceased) whom she married on February 19, 1933 in Saxon, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1933, Page 142, Application Date: February 14, 1933); children, Charles James Young (1936-Deceased), Merle Gladys Young (1938-1939), David Quinten Young (1945-1945), Thomas "Tommy" Edward Young (1946-Deceased), and one infant child.
She was also predeceased by her siblings: Myrtle Cook-Dickens (1901-1965), Sarah Rhoda Cook-Cook (1905-1985), Pink Cook-Gibson (1910-1994), Mae Cook-Lemon (Deceased), Wavie Florence Cook-Wyant (1913-2002), Lou Verna Cook-Honaker (1916-2005), Ruby Cook-Stepp (1919-Deceased), Quentin Edward Cook (1922-1982), Jesse Bell (Deceased), & Elsie Bell-Massey (Deceased).
She is survived by her sister, Mary Cook-Taylor of Coats NC; her children; Doff Young of Poquoson VA, Evelyn Young-Lucas (B. 1935) of Arnett, Thelma Young-Carpenter of Saxon WV, Johnny Young (B. 1951) of Huntington WV, Dorothy (Johnny Bowman) Young-Bowman of Saxon WV; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 12 great great-grandchildren.
Lily loved singing and writing songs, also gardening and most of all Love for Her Family. Everyone who knew her called her "Granny Lil." She will be missed by all.
Services will be held at the Flat Branch Baptist Church, Arnett, WV, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2016. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. the time of service. Officiating the service Rev. Andy Davis. Pallbearers will be her great grandsons.
