Frank E. Meeks
March 29, 1924 - November 2, 2016

Rev. Frank E. Meeks, Sr. passed away, Tuesday, November 2, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was lovingly surrounded by his extensive family and entered peacefully into his eternal rest. He fought the good fight and finished the race; but more importantly he stood ready to present his crown to his Heavenly Father. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 5. 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Minton officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frank Meeks was born March 29, 1934 in Valdosta, Ga. He followed his father and brothers into the railroad business. Norfolk Southern brought him to Macon in 1953 where he met the love of his life, Lila. They dedicated themselves to each other unwavering for 63 years – unto death did them part. He was injured on the railroad in 1959 and again in 1982 which led to multiple back and neck surgeries and chronic pain until his death. Over the years, his suffering was referred to as a modern day Job. His work-related injuries were eventually reviewed by the US Supreme Court and impacted the FELA and OSHA.

In 1965, while recovering from surgeries, he received the call into the ministry which impacted his life and the lives of many others to this day. Throughout his life, his focus was on ministering to the less fortunate in society: the homeless, underprivileged children and people in need. His work in various day camp ministries impacted many children over the years. He was always mindful of the needs of others and placed incredible importance on working hard. At one point in his life, surgeons told him that he would never lift anything heavier that a pencil. His strong will and determination were challenged and he vowed to prove the naysayers wrong. His love for his family was a driving force in his life.

Rev. Meeks was predeceased by his parents, Demery and Audrey Meeks; his four brothers: Milton, Mack, Norman and Raymond; and his son-in-law Lee Simonton.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lila Hope Williamson Meeks; children: Twila Mullis, Debra Simonton-Jackson (Ron), Frank Emory Meeks, Jr. (Wendy), Donna Murphy, Charlotte Beitler (Dean); grandchildren: Scott Gordon (Debbie), Grant Mullis, Joshua Simonton (Bobbie), Melissa Simonton-Land (Bobby), Coby Jackson, Stephanie Tainter (Chad), Courtney Meeks, Frank Emory Meeks, III "Trey", Lee Murphy, Jordan Murphy, Taylor Beitler (Arika), Thad Beitler, Tate Beitler; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; his sister, Frances Lynch (Joe) and sister-in-law, Mable Meeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be Camp Grace Ministries in Crawford County, GA
