After graduating from Pasadena High School, she married the love of her life, Eldon Hughes, and bought a home in Pasadena where they started their family. From 1950 until 2013 Janie and Eldon made various homes between Laporte, Deer Park, and Pasadena. While supporting her electrician husband, Janie worked in the Deer Park school district and raised two beautiful daughters. Although her mission in life was to be Super Mom, she always made time for her extended family and friends. Janie developed an affinity and love for planting and gardening that helped her maintain a sanity that was constantly in jeopardy because of her very active and demanding daughters.
In 2003, Janie and Eldon retired to their dream house on Sao Paulo in Pasadena where they had easy access to their many friends and close family.
Janie is survived by: her husband, Eldon; her daughter Kay, her husband Rick, and their daughter Erin; her daughter Joy; and her extended family Paul and Nancy Rathbun and their children.
A visitation celebration of Janie's life will be held at the Grandview Funeral Home in Deer Park, Texas on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The family would like to extend a loving thank you to Janie's caregivers, Marlize and Eva, and special thanks to the team at Hallmark Hospice headed by Alicia Jenecek.
Rather than flowers, the family requests that charitable donations are made to the Police Officers 100 Club of Houston.
