Jeff went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday morning, November 2 after he lost his battle with melanoma. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life. Jeff was born in Ft Worth, but has spent his adult life in Duncanville and Gatesville.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kay; his son, Jeffery Cathey; daughter, Amy Veazey and husband, Justin; six grandchildren: Jason, Jayden and Brynlee Cathey, Jamie Souza and husband, Tyler, Katie Michaels and husband, Caegan and Starley Veazey. Jeff is also survived by his mother, Lois Cathey; sister, Debbie Cathey and husband, Mel Richards; brother, Billy Joe Cathey and wife, Lauren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee, and his son, Jason Lee.
Jeff loved his family, bowling, hunting and nature. Often times his hunting would involve more picture shooting than gun shooting.
Jeff began his career in bowling in 1963. He worked in the family business Red Bird Lanes for more than 40 years. He worked tireless hours for the Texas Bowling Centers Association. He began as chairman of the youth committee in 1997 and ran grand prix tournaments for over 15 years. Jeff was president of TBCA from 2005-2007, and then chairman of the board for another two years after from 2007-2009. Jeff was honored with both the Proprietor of the Year and the C.C. Bearden Jr awards.
Funeral Service is 12:30 PM Saturday November 5, 2016 at High Pointe Baptist Church, 101 High Point Lane, Cedar Hill, TX 75104. Burial will follow at 5PM at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville, Texas.
