Beech Island, SC – Entered into rest on Monday, October 31, 2016, Mrs. Evelyn "Ebbie" Mildred Ponds Murdaugh Fowler, age 87.
Mrs. Fowler was a native and lifelong resident of the Ashton/Lodge area. She was a graduate of Lodge High School and Walterboro High School. She attended College at Winthrop University where she studied secretarial science. Mrs. Fowler was a former member of Lodge Methodist Church and a current member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Ebbie liked to dance and play the piano, no one would ever forget if they ever heard her play. Music was a very important part of her life. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to play an instrument, sing and dance. Ebbie left us with many unforgettable memories as she followed her own set of rules.
Family members include daughter: Peggy Murdaugh Bell and husband David; step-son: Keith Fowler and wife Linda; daughter- in- law: Carolann Murdaugh; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; sisters: Miriam Kinard, Ginger Mackenzie and husband Ronnie; brother: Joe J. Ponds and wife Miriam; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by: her first husband: Eugene H. Murdaugh, second husband: William L. Fowler; sons: Donny Gene Murdaugh, Henry Seal Murdaugh, Robert "Bobby" Marshall Murdaugh; sister: Violet Ponds; brother: Willis Ponds.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church in Ruffin, SC with Rev. Cheri Yates and Rev. Dan Fogle officiating. T Burial followed in Cross Swamp Methodist Church Cemetery in Islandton, SC. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro, SC was in charge of the services.
