Carol J. Moss, 88, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

A Requiem Mass will be said at 10:00 am on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Trinity Anglican Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, beside her husband, Phil. Memorials may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Rock Island or to the family.

The former Carol Stephenson was born on November 9, 1927 in Clay Center, NE, the daughter of Ray Stephenson and Laura Nagel Stephenson. She married Philip S. Moss on February 12, 1947 in Minatare, NE. Carol and Phil graduated high school together and were voted "Ideal Couple: of the class of 1945 in Minatare, NE. During the war years Carol worked at Minatare Bank as a cashier.

After moving to Rock Island in 1952, Carol worked at the former Tuberculosis Sanatorium. After attending Black Hawk College, she pursued her duties as a Medical Transcriptionist. She started work at Lutheran Hospital and retired from Trinity Medical Center. After retirement, Carol started her own transcription service and worked for many doctors and clinics in the area. She worked for Dr. Richard Retz for 13 years. She also volunteered at Alternatives For The Older Adult, working in money management.

Carol was a kind and gentle person who loved her family very much. She also loved to write short stories about growing up in Nebraska during the depression years. Many of her stories about Eastern Nebraska and living through the dust storms, grasshoppers, and the great drought were published in Bill Wundrum's column.

Carol is survived by three sons, Timothy (Helen) of Davenport, IA; Jon (Sherry) of Moline, IL, and Mark (Ann) of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Haley (John) Crow of Maryville, TN, Kelly Moss of Aledo, IL, Katie (Eric) Ohnoutka of Lincoln, NE, Timothy (Beth) Kozak of Lincoln, NE, Jarrod (Leslie) Moss of Moline, IL, Beth (Howard) Hathorne of Rock Island, Laura (Shawn) Petersen of Aledo, IL, and Larry (Danielle) Stone of Moline, IL; great-grandchildren, David, Johnna, Johnelle, Zach, Chase, Kinsey, David, Brayden, Kaylee, Josh, Jordan, Jayla, Mia, Alexis, Brandon, Alexa, Jordan, Taylor, Isla, Olivia, and Erika; and several nieces and nephews in Nebraska.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Ray Jr. and Bill; and sister-in-law, Barbara Moss.

We are thankful to have had Carol in our lives this long to guide and love us for so many years. She was a special grandmother. She loved to have her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit and was always interested in their lives. They will miss her greatly as will her family and friends.
