OBITUARY
James L. Cassady was born in Brown County, Ohio, Dec. 11, 1839, and departed this life Jan. 8, 1928, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cora E. Shipley of Graysville, Missouri, with whom he had made his home for the past three years, being at the time of his death 88 years and 28 days old.
He was the oldest of a family of ten children. He spent his early life in Ohio and about the year of 1864 he came from Brown County, Ohio to Missouri. He came on a steamboat to Alexandria and there his father met him with an ox team and transferred his family to his farm near Graysville, Missouri, where he spent practically the rest of his life.
He united with the United Brethren Church at an early age and later united with the Free Will Baptist Church, being a true Christian character and a good citizen. He was first united in marriage to Mary J. Carter, Nov. 7, 1861, in Brown County, Ohio. To this union four children were born, George W., Charles O., and Lucinda O., deceased, and Mrs. Cora E. Shipley of Graysville, Missouri, who survives him. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. T.B. Carter and Mrs. Hanna E. McKinley of Unionville, Missouri, and W.O. Cassady of Lamar, Missouri; eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was married to Mary A. McCloskey in 1895, who also preceded him in death. In 1901 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Lewis, who departed this life Dec. 13, 1924.
Funeral services were conducted at the Graysville church. Interment in Hartford Cemetery.
