John Fayne Rutter, 81, Green Bay, passed away peacefully at Manor Care on Sunday, October 30, 2016.

John was born on March 28, 1935, in Kinney, MN to Irene (Kallio) Rutter and Loren Stanley Rutter. He married Shelby Jean (Bitters) Lemke on June 27, 1981 in Oconto. John loved spending time with family, and centered his life's work on teaching and coaching. He was a proud retiree teacher and coach from the Howard-Suamico School District. Coach Rutter had a passion for all sports, but he especially enjoyed golf - including his Life Membership at PGA Tour. In his later years, John loved to travel with his wife and friends. He also enjoyed spending time and teaching his grandchildren. John completed several degrees, including: Associate in Science June 1955 at Virginia Junior College - Virginia, MN; Bachelor of Science July 1958 at Wisconsin State College River Falls; Master of Science May 1961 at Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia.

Survivors include his children, Lori (Jeff) Anderson, MN; Lisa Kychenthal, TX; Lynne VanLanen, TX; step children, Randy (Marylou) Lemke, Oconto; Pam (Mike) Vandenbush, Green Bay; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Bokunevitz, Green Bay; Nicholas Lemke, West Bend; Kristine Rhode and Todd Groholski (special friend), Greenville; Beth Vandenbush, Little Chute; Mark Rhode, Green Bay; Mike Vandenbush JR. and Laura Umentum (special friend), Green Bay; many great grandchildren; sister, Betty (Nick) Dicklich, Gilbert, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Irene Rutter; wife, Shelby Rutter; brother, Loren Rutter Jr; and a special friend Jerilyn Naffier.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Howard-Suamico location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, Green Bay, WI 54313 on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. Memorial Service at 4:30 p.m. Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com
