Mr. Dwight Lankford Riley, age 83 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 1, 2016 at Tanner Medical Center.
Mr. Riley was born July 23, 1933 in Orange County, North Carolina, the son of the late Lonnie Samuel Riley and Burlie Lankford Riley.
He served in the Army in Germany from 1954-1956. He graduated from Elon University in 1960 with a business degree. He has been a member of American Legion Post 143 for several years, serving as chairman of the Honor Guard and Finance Chairman. He was a retired salesman, having worked in the clothing industry and real estate.
He was a longtime member of First Christian Church, serving as deacon and on the finance committee. He attended Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a member of Linda Haney Sunday School Class. He loved being with his friends of the Hardee’s Coffee Group when he was able to be with them.
Dwight loved sports and especially watching the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons with is grandson Carson. His greatest joy in life was his family whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Winfrey O. Riley, Leary S. Riley, Paul A. Riley, J. Wade Riley; sisters, Wilma R. Bryant, Hazel R. Christopher and Doris R. Whitsell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy G. Riley; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri R. and Barry Boalch; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. D. David and Allison Riley; grandchildren, Daniel Boalch, Katie Boalch, Carson Riley and Avery Riley; sister-in-law, Oma H. Riley of Elon, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Allen and Minister Jon Day officiating.
Pallbearers will be Wilson Knott, Jack Harris, Jerry Latimer, Bobby Green, Bobby Boalch, Larry Burton, Randall Wilson and Daniel Boalch. Honorary pallbearers will be the Food and Fellowship Group, Linda Haney Sunday School Class, American Legion Post 143 and Hardee's Coffee Group.
Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens with American Legion Post 143 providing military honors.
