Dr. James Benson was son of Edmond and Anne Benson from London, England. James was christened, April 22, 1653, at St. Michael's Church, Cornhill, London, England. He came to Talbot Co, MD, about 1674. He was captain of a troop looking for horses for the Province of MD in 1693.
He acquired abt 100 acs along Oak Creek from Pasadena Inn to the Miles River.
In 1695, he was granted Benson's Enlargement of 750 acres extending to Michael's. Later bought Neglect and Mistake, all of which were left to son, James. He also bought Fishing Bay. His son, Perry, inherited all 5 properties, incorporated into one called "Wheatland".
He married Margaret Withers abt 1679 in Maryland. They had 8 children: Margaret, James, Edmund, Anne, Elizabeth, Perry, Nicholas, and Mary Benson.
