Sergeant Henry(Hank)Thurman McCrimmon was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SGT McCrimmon served our country until April 25th, 1968 in South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Henry died from Malaria. His body was recovered. SGT McCrimmon is on panel 52E, line 008 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 2 years.

"Hank" was my best childhood friend. He was a tremendous dancer and the best hitter on our Little League team. Hank was very popular, very charismatic. After graduating from Dudley High School, Hank, Elvester Hester and I worked the summer at a mill in Greensboro. I joined the Marines and a few months later Hank and Elvester joined the Army. They left for Vietnam shortly after I returned from my first tour. Both died in the war in 1968. Ralph Herbin, [email protected].

Henry was an original member of 3rd Battalion, 506th Airborne Infantry "Currahees" that shipped over to Vietnam in October of 1967. After the Tet Offensive of 1968, Henry was transferred to the 327th Infantry where he lost his life.

Henry Thurman McCrimmon was born August 19, 1947 and his home of record was Greensboro, North Carolina. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Angus McCrimmon. He is currently survived by one sister, Alpharetta and two brothers, Angus and Wesley. In her letter to me, Alpharetta told me that Henry loved to hunt and fish and was a Boy Scout. He had two cars that he was very proud of; a 54 Chevy and a 63 Ford Falcon. He graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1965. Henry served with the 3rd Battalion, 506th Infantry (Currahees), 101st Airborne Division and died April 25, 1968. He is buried in McLeansville First Baptist Church Cemetery, McLeansville, North Carolina. God rest your soul, Currahee! Jane Fulkerson: [email protected].
