CUMBERLAND— Marsha L. (Wentling) Thomas, 65, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born May 7, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Gardner LaMar and Esther Viola Wentling.

Marsha was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1969. She then graduated from Catherman’s Business School with a degree as a Medical Secretary. She worked in that capacity for over thirty years, most notably for Drs. Himmelwright, Figueroa, and Ashker. She was a member of the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association, coordinating the South Cumberland Halloween parade for over 25 years.
Methodist by faith, she was an active member of both Emmanuel United Methodist and Mt. Herman United Methodist Churches, being involved with the Sunday School Program, Vacation Bible School Program, and the United Methodist Women’s Group. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, and spending time with family— especially her two granddaughters.

Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Timothy B. Thomas; one son, Sean Thomas and wife, Kristie, Cumberland; two granddaughters, Kylie and Makinlie, both home with their parents; her mother-in-law, Betty Thomas; one sister, Diana Kline and husband, Jim, Smithville, AR; three nieces, Pam Johnson, Krista Schloo, and Kelli New; and one nephew, Todd Kline, and their families.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 1 from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 2, at noon, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 24 Humbird St. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Gene Combs, Greg Smith, Chuck Eberly, Brian Grim, Eugene Frazier and Steve Sensabaugh.

In honor of Marsha’s memory, contributions may be made to the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association for the Halloween Parade Fund. Checks should be written to SCBCA and mailed to Debbie Hidey, 1015 Kent Ave., Cumberland, MD.

The family would like to thank the staff of the 7 North Nursing Unit, and Drs. Lum, Zaman, Janjua, and Sprenkle for their excellent care over these last few weeks.
