Danny Osborn Terry, 66, went to be with the Lord in his Marion home October 31, 2016. He was born in Marion to the late Henry and Betty (Piatt) Terry. On May 8, 1998, Danny married Karen Pettiford, and she survives.
Danny was a 1968 graduate of Marion High School. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Following his military service, Danny started a carpentry apprenticeship at Great Lakes Naval Base. From there, he worked at Habitat for Humanity and then started his own businesses—7 Sons Carpentry and D&K Gospel. Prior to his passing, Danny worked for Prince Hall Housing Authority. His church home was House of Worship for All People in Marion.
Danny loved life and he was known for his great sense of humor. Spending time with his family was very important, and he loved to have barbeques as well as go on road trips with them, especially to Savannah, Georgia. He very much enjoyed carpentry and fixing up older homes, and delving into history and hearing older stories was also a favorite hobby of his. Danny never forgot about his alma mater, Marion High School, and was an avid Marion Giants sports fan.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Karen, of 18 years; sons, Lavarol Terry, North Chicago, Illinois, Rahsaan Terry, North Chicago, Shannon (Gloria) Terry, Waukegan, Illinois, Marcus (Melissa) Terry, Round Lake, Illinois, Daniel Terry, North Chicago, Keno Terry, Gurnee, Illinois, and Brian Terry, North Chicago; step-daughters, Kari (Rowland) Smith, Kristy Jones, and Kimberly Jones, all from Indianapolis; 16 grandchildren; brother, Ed (Pansy) Bailey, Marion; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Henrietta Terry and Elizabeth Testerman, and Pat Johns, who was like a sister to him.
Visitation November 4, 2016, at House of Worship for All People, 1824 S. Branson St., Marion. Services will begin at 12 noon at the church, with burial following at Marion National Cemetery.
