BOSSIER CITY, LA – Services celebrating the life of Anthony Michael Hooker will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 4227 Van Deeman St., officiated by Pastor Stephen Sorrell. Interment will follow at the NW Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
1sgt Anthony Michael Hooker (retired) was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 2, 1953 to Frances V. Ford McGee of Jacksonville, FL and Willie J Hooker of Detroit, MI.
Michael graduated from Gainesville High School in 1972. In 1974 he enlisted the United States Marine Corps where he served 21 years; retired May 31, 1993. Michael had many accomplishments and received many awards during his time in service to include, to name a few, National Defense Service Medal (w/1star), Meritorious Mast (7th Award), Good Conduct Medal (w/5 stars), Navy Achievement Medal (w/1 star) Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, and Letter of Appreciation (3rd Award). Michael was a member of Shelly Hammond Masonic Lodge, Marine Corp League Red River Detachment, and numerous other religious and community organizations. One of the greatest memberships Michael had was being a Christian, a member of God's family. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on a Friday night during revival in 2001 at Shady Grove Baptist Church following a sermon preached by guest minister Kenny Baldwin, Youth Minister of Crossroads Baptist Church, Bailey's Crossroads, VA.
Michael departed his physical life and entered his heavenly home on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Willis Knighton Pierremont, Shreveport, LA at approximately 09:50 A.M.
He has now joined his parents; Frances McGee and Willie Hooker, his sisters; Sylvia Filer and Carolyn Ross.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife of 42 years, Katherine Hooker; his children, Maria (Aaron) Kelly, and Anthony Hooker Jr., both of Bossier City, LA; sister, Cynthia Peterson; step sister, Mary Nobles, both of Gainesville, FL; brothers, Bishop Vincent (Henrietta) Hooker of Fort Worth, TX, John (Laura) Hooker of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Alton Ford of Gainesville, FL; Aunt Mary Cobb of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Samaria, Demarkus, Tyler, Michael, Xavier, and Andra; one god son, Nathaniel Williams; one step grandchild, Anterion Newton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and many endearing friends.
