Just as he entered this world, Charlie left it peacefully and quickly on Friday, October 28, 2016. In the loving arms of his bride, Cecilia, God called him to the Kingdom of Heaven while at his Manitowoc home, 1707 Green Street. Now, he is surely rejoicing with the angels and watching Fox news.

Charlie was born on June 15, 1931 in Manitowoc to Edgar and Adelhait (Rusch) Maurer, the second of four children. He grew up during the depression and often told stories of family challenges of that time. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High school class of 1949. During high school, Charlie was a paperboy and noticed a lovely dark haired girl on his route, Cecilia (Cele) Peaschek. Little did he know then that she was to become his lifelong sweetheart and partner, his loving wife for 62 years and mother of their 10 children. Charlie attended UW- Manitowoc for a year and then decided to enlist in the United States Navy. He completed his training at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois, attended Airman School in Florida and Aerology school in New Jersey. He was then stationed for three years in Atsugi, Japan as a Navy aerographer. Charlie attained the rank of 1st class Chief Petty Officer in the Navy before being discharged in 1955. He was proud to serve his country during the Korean Conflict and shared stories and photos with his children.

On July 24, 1954, Charlie married his sweetheart Cele at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He frequently said that marrying Cele was the "best decision I ever made." The newlyweds immediately traveled to Alameda, CA where Charlie finished his Naval career at the Alameda Military Weather Station. Upon discharge, the couple returned to Wisconsin where Charlie enrolled in the University of Wisconsin in Madison and graduated in 1958, in 3 years, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.

With a fresh college degree and three children already, Charlie and Cele moved to Milwaukee where Charlie worked as an Engineer at Cutler/Hammer and put every penny of his $125/week salary to raising his young family. Missing home, they returned to Manitowoc after a year where Charlie was the first professionally degreed engineer to be employed at Mirro Aluminum. Eager to boost his career, Charlie accepted a position at AC Spark Plug (a division of GM) in Oak Creek, WI. The couple moved to what would become their home for 45 years - Greendale, WI - a beautiful quaint bedroom community. They were happy there, raising their family and being involved in children and church activities. Charlie continued his engineering career with General Motors and worked on significant engineering projects such as the Exploratory Aeronautics Program, Titan Missile, gyroscopes, accelerometers and the original mammography machine.

Charlie's engineering knowledge remained impressive throughout his life, always being the one to assist with math homework and the quickest to solve a problem in his head or on his slide rule.

Charlie and Cele returned to their hometown of Manitowoc in 2005 where the couple spent time traveling to warm weather sites, visiting children and grandchildren, golfing, working at the Republican headquarters, doing pro-life work, volunteering, praying at the Adoration Chapel and attending Mass. A committed Catholic, Charlie was a prayerful, gentle and humble man who raised his children in a strong and loving Catholic home.

Along with his adored wife, Charlie always said he was proudest of being a father and raising his 10 children. His favorite line was "there's not a loser in the bunch." He was a loving dad who provided for all his children and didn't miss a single football, basketball, volleyball, track, cross country, diving meets or school functions for decades. He was a strong advocate of higher education and encouraged his children to achieve.

Along with being able to fix anything, Charlie had a wonderful sense of humor and like his dad, often came out with unexpected quips. He loved sports of all kinds and was a very capable golfer with a swing as easy and sure as he was.

Charlie is sadly missed but deeply loved and forever remembered by all of his 10 children and 25 grandchildren. He was Dad and Grandpa "Papa" Charlie to Christopher, JD, Texas, and Christie, Charles; Douglas, MBA (Carol), New Jersey; Mary, MHA (Danny),Two Rivers, WI; Paul, DC, (Sue), Oak Creek, WI and Adam, Jeremy, Luke; Amy, OTR, (Jim), Florida and Peter, Jimmy Jr., Jonathan; Stephen, PA-C, (Karen), Nashotah,WI and Jenna, Haley; Peter, MBA, (Sheila), Nashotah, WI and Anna, Andrew, Rachael, Matthew, Jonathan; Charles Jr., MEL, (Donna), Pleasant Prairie, WI and Thomas, Charles III, Michael, John, Joseph, Vincent; Anna, BED, (Jeffrey), Greendale, WI and Emma, Joshua, Nicholas, Sadie; and Julie, JD, Arizona.

Charlie is survived by his beautiful wife Cele; one brother, Richard, Manitowoc; one sister and brother in law Junice (Roger), Minnesota; sister in law and brother in law, Marilyn and Gerald Staudt, Illinois; nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.Preceding him in death are his parents, older brother Clifford (Delma), California; and sister in law Barbara, Manitowoc.
