Karen Sue "Kacy" Castle, 61, of Washington passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born October 21st, 1955 in Peoria and is preceded in death by her parents Eldon and Doris (Hulse) Smith.

Surviving are her daughter, Sarah Siever, of East Peoria, her brother, Jerry Wayne Gunther, of Arkansas, "sister" Lorena Cary, of Washington, as well as a very large extended family, and her fur babies, Amera and Karla.

Karen was a well-loved and respected special education teacher for District 150, working at Glen Oak, White Middle School and Roosevelt Magnet over the course of her career. She loved her students like they were her own children, which showed in her readiness to ensure that none of her students went without what they needed.

As well as teaching, she had a passion for learning, she earned two masters degrees in special education. She was also the president of the Council for Exceptional Children.

Karen had a deep love of travel, going to Mexico every spring break with a group of fellow teachers. Her and her daughter loved to travel together, making long-distance, life-long friends along the way. She was most at home poolside with her book and a piña colada.

Anyone who knew her was well-acquainted with her unwavering love for the Green Bay Packers, driving her convertible with the top down and absolutely anything that was purple!!

Karen was the kind of eternal good heart, kind spirit, and generous soul that you could sense from a mile away, which left her with a very extensive group of friends, who she loved like family. She was the most patient, caring and loyal friend you could find and everyone thought themselves blessed to have her.

The visitation for Karen will be Thursday, November 3rd from 5-7 PM at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held the following morning, November 4th at 10:30 AM also at Woodland Chapel with burial to follow at Parkview Cemetery.

Charitable donations can be made in her name to TAPS in Peoria.
