Janis Love Doak Thorson, beloved wife, loving mother, daughter, and a friend to many, passed peacefully into heaven on September 23, 2016. Janis was born in San Antonio on January 21, 1952 to Donald Doak and Jacqueline Moyer. At three she relocated to Louisiana, but moved back to San Antonio for work in 1973. That same year she met the love of her life, Philip C. Thorson, and the two married on May 23, 1978 in Paris, France.

They raised two fine sons, Carl and Paul Thorson. Everyone who knew Janis cherished her. She loved to laugh, play cards, shop, and walk along beaches. Always communally active, she stayed a member of Coker United Methodist for 35 years. She participated in Boy Scouts, youth sport functions, and worked for Abraxas Petroleum until her retirement in 2015.

She is survived by her husband Phil, two sons Carl and Paul, her father Donald, two half-sisters Mie Doak and Naomi Bates, and many cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held on October 29, 2016 at Coker United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., with doors opening at 10 a.m.
