Arden Newnam Ballard, president of Highlines Construction Co., died Tuesday at Elmwood Medical Center of heart failure. He was 73. Mr. Ballard was a native of Shreveport and lived in Harahan for 35 years. He attended Louisiana State University on a boxing scholarship and received a petroleum engineering degree. As an amateur boxer, he won 100 of his 104 fights. He was a major in the Army, 207th Engineering Combat Battalion, and earned a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and a Five-Campaign Star. He was past president of Colonial Country Club and a 32nd degree Mason. He is survived by his wife, Ruth McCarroll Ballard; a daughter, Barbara Ann Ballard; two sons, Robert Arden Ballard and Henry Jackson Ballard; a brother, E.G. Ballard; three sisters, Mary Alice Johnson, Fay Shaw and Joyce Lee Jackson; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Burial will be in Garden of Memories, Metairie.
