Richard, 82, passed away after a sudden illness and after battling many other health issues for several years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sigridur (Sig), along with his sons, Mark (& Patti) Allen of San Ramon, CA, and Brian (& Christine) Allen of Folsom, CA. He was predeceased by his daughter Erin (Winham) in 2001. Richard was also survived by his brother Glen Allen of Danville, and predeceased by his sister Phyllis Quinley of Covina, CA in 2003.

Richard (Grandpa) is also survived by his grandchildren: Lauren Allen, Brittany Thurgood, Lindsey Allen, Seth Winham, Brooke Winham, Ashley Allen and Taylor Allen. These wonderful kids were the joy of his life, and he loved talking about each of them whenever possible.

Richard was born in Mason City, Iowa. After graduating from Mason City High and spending two years at the University of Iowa, Richard joined the US Army in 1954. He was honorably discharged in 1956 after a tour in Germany, and found his way to Southern California. He soon began working at Bank of America and was quickly promoted to an Operations Officer at the Beverly Hills office where he then met a beautiful Icelander in 1957 who worked the teller line. Married in 1958, Richard and Sigridur (Sig) settled in Los Angeles, and Richard continued to work for Bank of America over the next 27 years. After an executive position with Associates First Capital, Richard began working for Visa International and later Visa USA, retiring in 2006.

He loved playing & watching tennis, movies that didn’t deserve a ‘thumbs down’, reading biographies and WWII documentaries. Richard was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather by unselfishly providing so much to his family through out his 82 years.

Richard will be interned at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Livermore near his loving daughter Erin. A private Celebration of his Life will be held, time and place to be determined.
