Richard Leon Mayo, 85, of Fordland, Mo., formally of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday Oct. 29, 2016 at Strafford Care Center.

Mr. Mayo, the son of the late Richard H. and Thelma G. Kearbey Mayo, was born April 7, 1931 in Butler County, Mo. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Mayo had retired as an auto body repairman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and woodworking.

On April 8, 1950, he married Frances Jewell Pennington in Paragould, Ark. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2000.

Survivors include three children, Sherry Hiatt, Andy Mayo of Fordland, Mo. and Steve Mayo of Santa Rosa, Calif; five grandchildren, Dulci Orr, Kelly McSwain, Stephanie Figueroa, Kayla Lilly and Kenneth Hiatt; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert F. Mayo of Glendale, As.; two sisters, Lorene Crowley of Ellisnore, Mo. and Roberta Maize of Lesterville, Mo.

A brother, Billy (Sonny) Mayo and a grandson Michael McCluskey also preceded Mr. Mayo in death.

Visitation will be held at 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will follow at Cochran Cemetery in Butler County, Mo.
