Jane attended Purdue University graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in nutrition. While at Purdue she served as president of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Jane moved to Indianapolis in 1948 after marrying the late Boyd McKinney.
Jane served in leadership roles with the Children's Museum Guild, Stansfield Circle and various other civic and charitable organizations.
After gaining a masters degree from IU in the late 60's, she began a second career as a food broker, and also taught nutrition at IUPUI. Twice, she was elected president of the American Dietetic Association. She and her husband Boyd also served on the Purdue Alumni board and were longtime members of Meridian Street Methodist Church.
Jane enjoyed cooking, entertaining, golf, travelling and Purdue football. She split her time between Indianapolis and Lake Maxincuckee in Culver, Indiana. Most of all, Jane was known for her energy, her wonderful meals and her love of family.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Boyd McKinney, her parents, Ina and Max Scarff , and her sisters Mary Ellen Martin and Nancy Baker.
Jane is survived by her children: Sarah Cantwell, Betsy (Mike) Feldmann and Todd (Becky) McKinney, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff at Sunrise at Old Meridian for the loving care extended to their mother.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Jane's family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association , www.alz.org.
