Perry D Watts of Harleton died Friday, October 28, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family. He was 87.
Funeral services for Mr. Watts will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home with a visitation preceding the service from 1-2 p.m.
Interment will be in the Center Cemetery in Harleton.
Perry D Watts was born in the Jackson Community, Marion County to Nettie White Watts and Charley Watts on October 24, 1929. He is preceeded in death by his wife, Naomi on June 14, 2016 and by his sister, Geraldine.
He married Naomi Taylor May 11, 1949 and had just celebrated their 67th anniversary. As young newlyweds they traveled all around Texas and Colorado working on oil rigs as a roughneck. After the birth of their two children, Linda and Michael they came back to the area where they owned and operated PD Watts’ Grocery and Tackle on Lake O’ the Pines for 18 years. After selling the store he worked for the Corp of Engineers at Lake O’ Pines for many years. PD was always a people person and loved to visit and loved to buy and sell his *junk” which consisted of knives, fishing poles and anything he could get for a bargain and sell for a dollar more. After retiring from the Corp he built PD’s Place across from his old store to house the many treasures he had found at Canton, Estate Sales and garage sales.
He was a founding member of Lone Oak Baptist Church in the Jackson Community and served as a deacon in his younger years.
Those surviving him are his daughter, Linda Watts Hailey and husband, Roddy of Harleton and his son Michael and wife Pam of Jefferson. Also surviving are granddaughter, Jennifer Morris Jones and husband, Brandon and their children, Jase, Avery and Jaxon of Mt Enterprise.
Grandson Matthew and wife Misty and their children, Keylan and Addison of Harleton. Grandson, Taylor Watts and wife, Lindsay and children, Noah and Clara of Bedford.
Granddaughter, Andrea Watts Ramsey and husband, Jay and sons, Luke and Lawson of Tyler and granddaughter Natalie Watts Penny and husband, Randy and children Cooper and Kenlie of Hughes Springs. His brother, Milton Watts also survives him along with several nieces and nephews..
Left behind are two very special caregivers, his granddaughters, Misty and Addy, who were with him day and night for the year following his heart attacks. They loved him very much and took such good care of him and their Nanny. Their loving care and concern gave him 12 more months of life that he would not have been able to make without them.
