Melody Diane Sears-Harris, a 50-year resident of California and a 30-year resident of Twentynine Palms, died Aug. 24, 2012, in Joshua Tree. She was 62 years old.

The daughter of Moss and Ethel Sears, she was born Nov. 18, 1949, near Middleton, Ohio.

Mrs. Sears-Harris worked as a playground monitor for the local school district for several years and worked dispatch and as a driver for Tops Cab for several years. She was forced into early retirement when she became disabled.

She was a member of the Eagles in Twentynine Palms.

She loved playing her guitar, singing and riding her pink Harley. She had her own band, which played at several venues all the way from Wonder Valley to Palm Springs back in the late 1980s into the early 1990s. She was a advocate for animal rights and loved her collies, which included her service collie, Titan. She was also an online moderator for Support Central, which is an online support group for people with fibromyalgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Moss and Ethel Sears, her biological mother, Imojean Lund, and brother Lester Ray Kidwell.

She is survived by her life partner, Scott Harris of Twentynine Palms, stepfather Robert Lund Sr. of West Los Angeles, sister Carol Hall of Twentynine Palms, brothers Michael Kidwell of Fresno and Steven Sears of Carthage, Mo., Conni Bittinger of Camarillo and stepbrother Robert Lund Jr. of Culver City.

She also is survived by eight nieces, five nephews, two great-nephews, three great-nieces and one great-great-niece.

She graciously donated her body to science in hopes of helping others afflicted with illnesses such as hers. On the one-year anniversary of her death, a tree will be planted in her memory for enjoyment of future generations.

**for genealogy purposes, Melody's birth parents were Imogene Abrams and Lester Kidwell. Moss and Ethel Sears were her step-grandfather and maternal grandmother, and adopted her, thus her name changed to Sears.
