KINSTON | Grace Hill Morris, 92, of Kinston went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Sunday morning October 16, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Lenoir County on October 7, 1924, to the late Jesse Grainger and Oma Caroline Hill. Grace graduated from Deep Run High School in 1941 and left home to attend Atlantic Christian College at the age of 16, where she graduated with a B.A. degree in 1944. In 1946 she married H.M. Morris Jr., who preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her son, Kelly Bryan Morris, in 1969. She is survived by three sons, Monnie Morris of Greenville, Mike Morris of Morehead City and Tim Morris and fiancée Tori, of Greenville; a sister, Annie Ruth Parrish of Greenville; and three brothers, Dr. Morris Hill of Kinston, Warren Hill of Cary and Dr. Doug Hill and wife Jane, of Morehead City; two granddaughters, Wendy Riggs and husband Eddie, of New Bern and Gracen Morris of Raleigh; and one grandson, Kelly Morris of Grifton; one step grandson, three great-granddaughters and three great-great granddaughters; and many loved nieces and nephews. Grace was an English teacher at Deep Run High School for seven years before leaving her career to become a devoted homemaker and mother of four sons. She loved caring for her family and was committed to providing the best life possible for all of them. After her youngest son left for college, Grace enjoyed working part time through Lenoir Community College, teaching Aging & Nutrition at various senior care sites in Lenoir County, for about eight years. Grace was a charter member of Southwood Christian Church, and a long-time member of Northwest Christian Church in Kinston. She was very active for a number of years, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, and was co-founder of the Ladies Love Group, organized to help those in need in the community. She was also a member of a local sorority in Kinston, where she developed many friendships over the years. Grace really enjoyed cooking, gardening and working in her yard, and was a long time member of the local Garden Club in Kinston. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Lenoir County Meals on Wheels program, and other volunteer organizations. Grace was truly unwavering in her love for her family, friends and the Lord. She loved helping others and was devoted to serving the Lord. She was truly a selfless person and a blessing to many people. Her family would like to give a very special thanks to Valorie, Lisa, Anna, Sherry and Jeff at Magnolia Cottage, Joyce and Sabrina at Cypress Glen, and the 3HC Home Health & Hospice caregivers. Mother loved all of you, and we are grateful for the love and care you showed her. The family will receive friends, Monday, October 24, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home in Kinston. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Rick Vernon officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Grace H. Morris to Smith's New Home FWB Church, PO Box 303 Deep Run, NC 28525 or Alzheimer's Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612.
