Mrs. Atwater Pettiford was perhaps the one of the most important civil rights, social and educational activists in North Carolina, with her peer, C.P. Ellis. a former member of the Ku Klux Klan. They were featured in the documentary, "An Unlikely Freindship". Both are interred at Woodlawn.
