Walter S. Ferguson, 90, of Manchester, beloved husband of 55 years of the late Dorothy “Dottie” (Woodin) Ferguson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Manchester on January 2, 1926, a son of the late Alexander and Catherine (Stewart) Ferguson, he had been a lifelong resident of Manchester. Walt was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Missouri where he was a member of the Honor Guard during the signing of the Peace Treaty of WW II. Prior to his retirement, Walt was employed by the town of Manchester as a Police Officer for over 31 years, retiring as a Sergeant in 1984. He later worked several years for ADP as a part-time courier in the Hartford area. Walt was a longtime faithful friend of Bill W. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New York Giants, New England Patriots, and UCONN Women’s basketball. Walt loved working in his yard, gardening, relaxing on his patio, and feeding his birds. He also enjoyed traveling with his late wife to Cape Cod, Maine, Aruba, Bermuda, and the Caribbean Islands. Most of all, Walt was a devoted husband and father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with all of them and supporting them at their games and activities. Walter is survived by a son, Glen S. Ferguson and his wife Donna of Ellington; three daughters, Cheryl L. Kaschak and her husband John of Allen, TX, Teri F. Lessard of East Hartford, Diane G. Ferguson of Manchester; a sister, Catherine Bagley of Independence, IA; eleven cherished grandchildren, John Kaschak and Kayla Kaschak both of Austin, TX, Tyler Kaschak and Alyssa Kaschak both of Allen, TX, Justin Boucher and his fiancée, Kassie Lowry, and Samantha Boucher all of Vernon, Danny Lessard and his wife, Emma, and Kyle Lessard all of East Hartford, Nicole Ferguson, Jenna Ferguson, and Ryan Ferguson all of Ellington; two adored great-grandchildren, Blake Boucher of Enfield, and Savannah Genovese of Vernon; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Funeral service will be Monday (October 31, 2016) at 11 am at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester with the Rev. Denise Plante Terry officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at East Cemetery, Manchester. Walt’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Sunday (October 30, 2016) from 4-7 pm.
