Mr. L. Charles Rice, Sr., 88 passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Hope Mills Retirement Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, October 31, 2016 at Faith Baptist Church 15976 NC Hwy 53 W., White Oak, officiating will be Dr. Mack Roberts, Rev. Bobby Winebarger and Rev. Larry West. Burial with military honors will be private at Fisher Cemetery in Stedman.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm-6:00pm Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L. Chaffin Rice and Nellie Ray Rice; great grandson, Ronald Allen Rice, III; siblings, Gladys Rice Wright, Merle Woodburn Holmes, Ray "Iggie" Arnold Rice, Nell Rice Bromley and Evelyn Rice.
He was a Korean War Veteran in the United States Army, a self employed brick mason and drove a school bus for Cumberland County schools, and he was a member of Faith Baptist Church since 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Maxwell Rice; sons, L. Charles Rice, Jr. & wife, Leslie and Ronald Allen Rice, Sr. & wife, Renae; 4 grandchildren, Ashley Renae Rice & fiance', Todd Estes, Lindsay Rice Tilley & husband, David, SSG Ronald Allen Rice, Jr. & wife, Shannon and Rebecca Rice Bishop & husband, Robert Adam; and 7 great grandchildren, Austin James Tilley, Emily Grace Tilley, Alyssa Noel Tilley, Brianna Clay, Jacob Molloy, Reagan Rice and Emmett Bishop.
