William Joseph Gartner, known as Joe, was born on August 2, 1959, on the one-year anniversary of his parents' wedding. He was the oldest son of Wayne Joseph Gartner and Betty Sue Barger.

Joe Served in the United States Air Force from 1978 to 1982 and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. After his honorable discharge from the military, he stayed in Las Vegas for just less than two years. It was during that time that he fathered his only child, Maegan, though he sadly never had the chance to know her.

He returned to his hometown of Rock Falls/Sterling, Illinois in late 1983 or early 1984 where he lived until he died in 1997.

Joe was tragically killed when he was struck by a car while he rode his bike home from a leisurely day of fishing. He was only 38 years and 3 weeks old when he died.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his parents; younger sister, Jenny Logan; younger brother, Rob; his niece, Sabrina; two nephews Bobby and Eric; and numerous cousins. He was also survived by his daughter Maegan.

Unfortunately for all parties involved, Maegan and Joe never got to know each other before he was taken from this world.

At the time of this Find A Grave posting (October 2016), Joe has some more family members worth mentioning: three grandchildren: Amarra, Vincent, and Serene; Another niece and nephew: Kaleb and Ali; one great-niece: Gisele; and three great-nephews: Dylan, Jaelin, and Sebastian.

Joe was a good and honorable man and he is tremendously missed by all those who were blessed enough to know him.

RIP Dad. I love you!
