Daughter of Paul E. and Betty G. Townsend, Val was a nurse for most of her life. She first obtained a license for practical nursing, then in 1980 became a registered nurse. She worked for 25 years at the Mira Vista Nursing home in Mount Vernon until she retired.
On September 1, 1956 she married Ervin G. Robertson in King County, Washington. On March 1, 1960 she married Richard H. Yake in Skagit County, Washington. On December 31, 1970 she married Arnold L. Roberts in Skagit County.
She was survived by her husband, Lou Roberts; a daughter, Paula Jean Holland of Mount Vernon; two grandsons, Brandon Holland of Alabama and Shane Dinning of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Dorothy George of Kettle Falls, Therese Hale of Tacoma and Urilyus Marvene Talley of Oak Harbor; and one brother, John Rothschild of Las Vegas.
