S. Edwin Megargee, 82, Charity Worker, Dies
S. Edwin Megargee, 82 years old, formerly one of the best-known residents of Philadelphia, where he was active in Catholic charities and a lawyer of prominence, died yesterday at his home, 16 Garden Place, of pneumonia.
Mr. Megargee was born in Philadelphia, where he had served as consular representative to the governments of Greece and Russia. He also was at one time president of the Federation of Catholic Societies in Philadelphia and Vice President and Director of the Equitable Trust Company of that city.
He is survived by five sons and seven daughters. A requiem mass will be offered Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Charles Borromeo R. C. Church. Burial will be in Philadelphia.

S. Edwin Megargee, former president of the American Catholic Federation, died on Sunday at the home of his son, S. Edwin Megargee, Jr., in Brooklyn, N.Y. Surviving are five sons and seven daughters.
Mr. Megargee, born and raised in this city, was for many years a member of the Philadelphia bar and was at one time Democratic candidate for Attorney General of Pennsylvania. He served in this city as Consul for the governments of Greece and Russia. He held the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws conferred by Villanova College.
Mr. Megargee, who was 82 years old, will be buried in the New Cathedral Cemetery, this city, after funeral services at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Brooklyn, on Wednesday.
