Ruffert Cole Dubose c1848-1880 (or Ruppert? he was known as Cole) was born in South Carolina to William K. and Martha Dowd Dubose. They were descended from Isaac Dubose, a French Hugenot who immigrated to South Carolina around 1698. The William K. family moved to Alabama in the 1850's. My grandmother said they loaded up the family, household and servants and set out. They would spend days travelling under the giant pine trees in the dark of the shade. When they would come to a clearing they would stay for several days just to enjoy the sun. Cole married Martha Hornsby who was a distant cousin and they had three children (Drucilla, Lucinda Viola and Tom Howard). He died shortly after the 1880 census. I believe he served in the CSA, but can't be certain that the Cole Dubose is him.
