Don E. Wallace, 80, entered the Heavenly Gates on June 24, 2015, following a courageous and enduring treatment for lung cancer. He was born January 7, 1935 in Kent and was the son of Bernard and Val Wallace. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Don began his work career by working in the family bakery in Chicago. He then went on to work at Dayton Nursery and various funeral homes in the area. He was an active member of Community Church of Portage Lakes and had previously attended Goss Memorial.

Don came into his wife Sandra’s life after the passing of her first husband and he filled a void when both of them were searching to find the right person to continue with the next phase of their lives. They built a new life together that included traveling to such places as Virginia Beach, Washington D.C., Mackinaw Island, and cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. They shared a unique bond in that both of them were adopted.

Don was always positive and enjoyed his life. He loved dogs, and meeting new people! He never worried much about things – except the well-being of his wife. His one regret is that he wasn’t able to continue to be there for her.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Verna Negro; and Sandra’s son, Richard Thompson. He leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Sandra; Sandra’s daughter, Bonnie (Kevin) Sypolt; and grandson, Joey.

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home 3326 Manchester Rd. on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m., with service beginning at 12:30 p.m., Pastor Gary Meeks officiating. Interment at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
