George R. "Randy" Blount, 78, died Tuesday morning (October 25, 2016) at St. Vincent's Riverside of Jacksonville, FL following a brief illness.
He was a native of Brunswick, GA but had lived most of his life in Waycross. He was the son of the late George Greene Blount and Bernadine DeLoach Blount. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Blount and a brother, F.W. Blount.
He was a graduate of Wacona High School and retired as a Supervisor from Bell South. He was a member of Deenwood Baptist Church. He was also member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the National Rifle Association and had formerly worked with the Boy Scouts of America for 30 years. He also served with the Army National Guard for 8 years. He will be remembered as a Loving Husband and Father.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Williams "Becky" Blount of Waycross; a daughter, Kathy J. Griffis (husband Donnie) of Waycross; a son, Alan Blount (wife Tonya) of Dublin, GA; 2 step-daughters, Jessica Tanner (husband Greg) and Leah Burgeson (husband Jason) both of Waycross; 12 grandchildren plus their spouses, 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Ed Blount (wife Kate) of Perry, GA; 3 sisters-in-law: Judy Blount of Waycross, Inez Manning of Clearmont, FL, and Claudia Harvey of Orchard Park, NY.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday (October 28, 2016) at Deenwood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 AM Friday at Deenwood Baptist Church. A private burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery.
