Dr. Richard W. Stockton, formerly of Delanco and Beach Haven Crest, N.J., succumbed to cancer after a long hard-fought battle on Sunday, June 19, 2011 in Mt. Holly. He was 81.

He was a graduate of the Peddie School and attended Brown University and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where a scholarship Fund has been established in his name.

Dr. Stockton, or 'Doc' as he was known to his students and patients, was an optometrist for 10 years in Delanco, and a Science teacher at Riverside High School for more than 45 years.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was active in the American Legion Post 146 of Riverside. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge 187, Beverly-Riverside Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea; his daughter, Jean D. McManus and sons, Christopher R. (Katie), both of Delanco, and son, John E. Stockton (Arleen) of Penndel, Pa.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Friends of the family are cordially invited to share their thoughts, condolences, and fond memories with the Stockton family at a visitation at the Chadwick Memorial Home, 154 Webster St., Riverside, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be private.
