Mr. Jerry Wayne Townsend, 78, widower of Jo Ellen Bryant Townsend, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at his home after an illness.

Mr. Townsend was born January 28, 1938 in Mullins, a son of the late J. L. and Virginia Miller Townsend. He had retired from the US Postal Service and was a US Navy veteran. Mr. Townsend, an avid golfer, was a member of the Pee Dee Senior Golfers and also served on the Pee Dee Academy Booster Club. He was a faithful and devoted member of Mullins First Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class.

Surviving Mr. Townsend are his son, Mark (Nancy) Townsend of Fork; his daughter, Mitzi (Mike) Martin of Mullins; his grandchildren, Michael Martin and Lauren Martin; and four sisters, Gwen Morgan of Lake View, Alice (Sam) Beck of Mountain Home, AR, Faye Townsend of Timmonsville and Marianne (Bill) of James Island.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, at Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Chadwick Ivester and Rev. Ken Sandifer officiating. The Services will be directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
