Kristine Johannessen was born in Stavanger, Norway on November 11, 1921. She was the eldest of three children born to Johan and Hilda (Halvorsen) Johannessen.
Johan Johannessen (her father) immigrated to the United States in 1923. Kristine, her younger sister (Liv), and mother (Hilda) immigrated five years later (1929). Upon their landing in New York, Johan was at the dock to greet them, and took the family to their new home in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Kristine was almost eight years of age at the time, and began school … unable to speak or understand a word of English. Her teacher spelled her name Christine, and she spelled it that way ever since.
Christine always took lunch to her father (Johan) and one day “caught the eye” of one of Johan’s co-workers (Clarence Burch). They began to date and were married on Feb. 13, 1939. Two children were soon to follow.
The family moved to Florida in 1949, whereby the family remained. Clarence died on June 15, 1995 in Lake Worth, Florida and is buried at Lake Worth Memory Gardens.
After her husband died, Christine moved to Ohio, to live with their son. She died there on Jan. 13, 1999, and is also buried at Lake Worth Memory Gardens.
