Fred Lawrence Nelson, 82, of Upper Pittsgrove passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on October 23, 2016.

Born in Franklin, NC to the late John H. and Alice Q. (nee Williamson) Nelson, Fred was two years old when he moved with his family to New Jersey during the Great Depression. He was a 1953 graduate of Woodstown High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 and served until 1963. Fred spent most of his life working with his brothers, Jesse and Bill at Nelson Brothers Farms and retired when he was 72 from H & S DuBois Farms. A devout Christian, he was a member of the Faith Orthodox Presbyterian Church where he attended for 42 years. He was also a member of the Ruritans Club of Pole Tavern. A simple, plain and loving husband, father, brother and son, he will always be remembered as a devoted grandfather.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Emma (nee Mitchell) Nelson; his children, Mark A. and Susan A.; his grandchildren, Alyssa, Danielle and John; his great grandchildren, Nathan and Maliah; his sister, Helen Bevis; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Edith Harvey and Bill, Jesse Sr. and Leroy Nelson.

Services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Faith Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 545 Daretown Road, Elmer, NJ 08318 with a visitation from 9 to 11 AM followed by the service at 11 AM. Interment will be at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery in Pilesgrove. Adams Funeral Home.
