Gerald K. Black

Cedar City, Utah

Our loving father, grandfather “Big Pa”, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday October, 23, 2016. After a long battle with Congestive Heart failure he was able to return to his Heavenly Father above.

Gerald was born in Elsinore, Utah to Bernice Hickman and Verl C. Black, and had one sister, Alexa Black. Gerald graduated from South Sevier High school in 1961, and later attended Snow College from 1962-1963 before serving an LDS mission in the British South Mission from 1963-1965. He later attended the College of Southern Utah where he met his wife Patsy Jean Workman. They had one son, Wayne Black. Gerald and Pat later divorced after 36 years of marriage.

Throughout his time as an owner/operator truck driver, Gerald’s career included driving a tanker truck delivering fuel to rural oil rigs thought the Uinta Basin, and then transitioned to cross country truck driving, pulling a reefer unit.

Although he was not able to attend church regularly, Gerald had a very strong testimony of the LDS church and tried his best to live a good and worthy life. Gerald was an active member of the Color Country Antique Machinery Association C.C.A.M.A. He enjoyed working on and restoring antique tractors and loved just about anything tractor. He also enjoyed participating in parades, tractor pulls, and loved to give the neighbor kids rides in his wagon. Some of his other hobbies included, woodworking, and antique toy tractor collecting. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and always looked forward to taking them out for cheese fries and apple juice.

He is survived in death by his sister, Alexa (Bartley) Christiansen, his son Wayne (Susana) Black, and three grandchildren, Jamila, Shania, and Tristan Black.

Graveside Services will be held at the Cedar City Cemetery, Thursday October 27th, at 10:00 AM under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
