Samuel Hay, born about 1760 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a son of John and Margaret Hay. He joined the Revolutionary War as a young man, eventually moving south to the Falls of the Ohio with George Rogers Clark and his soldiers. He met and married Anne Wood in 1792, and they had at least five children together. Anne died about 1811, and Samuel married Elizabeth Holland, with whom he had at least two more children before his death in 1840.
