Lillie "Mama Lil" Blake-Chanay-Thompson, 88, passed away on October 15, 2016 peacefully at her son's home in Byram, Mississippi.

She was born on May 4, 1928 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Lillie was educated in both Camden and Hot Springs public schools. These schools were influential in shaping her life. Mrs. Thompson served as an extraordinary educator for over 40 years in both the high school and collegiate levels. She received her undergraduate degree in Business Education from Philander Smith College. She continued her education by receiving a Master's in Business from Indiana University. Mrs. Thompson completed further studies in Business and Economics from Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas.

She established her legacy as a faith, civic and community leader during her lifetime. Over the span of her career in education, her lifelong career began as a high school secretary, and high school teacher before thirty-three years serving as an Associate Professor of Business and Economics at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). She was also a very active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority for 69 years.

Lillie was a lifelong member of the A.M.E. Church. She has been a member of St. John A.M.E. Church, Pine Bluff, Arkansas since 1954.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earle N. Chanay; her second husband, Nathaniel Thompson; a step-daughter, Mary Fuller; her mother, Paralee Blake-Smith; her father, Eason Blake; a brother, Clifton Blake; and a sister, Glennie Blake.

Lillie is survived by a son, Dr. Marcus A. Chanay (Chiquita) of Byram, MS; her step-daughters, Francis Carter of Pine Bluff and Blanche Causey of Pine Bluff; five grandchildren: Marcus Chanay Jr. of New York, NY, Whitney of Houston, TX, Ruqayya of Byram, MS, Marquis of Byram, MS, and MacKenzie of Byram, MS; five great-grandchildren: Kalise, London, Marleigh, Maisyn, and Myles; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.

The funeral services will be held in St. John A.M.E. Church with Rev Reginald Buckley officiating. The internment services will be held at Forrest Lawn Cemetery.
