US Marine LCPL Willie Howard Adger, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Greensboro, NC.

US Marine LCPL Willie Howard Adger was a member of the Marine Corps. LCPL Adger served our country until February 7th, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Willie died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. LCPL Adger is on panel 37E, line 079 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

His name also appears on the North Carolina Vietnam Wall along with other Guilford County Sons who perished in Vietnam.

Hero at Peace. Forty years later I still think about this fateful day for you and the other Marines in Kilo Company, H&S and Corpsman that were killed. A horrible battle and fought gallantly by you. Five members of the Class of 1965, James B. Dudley High School (Greensboro, NC), died in Vietnam: LCpl Willie H. Adger, Mike Co, 3rd Bn, 3rd Marines, 07 Feb 1968; Pfc Chester D. Fewell, India Co, 3rd Bn, 7th Marines, 09 Jan 1967; PFC Elvester Hester, Alpha Co, 1st Bn, 503rd Infantry, 12 Feb 1968; Sgt Henry T. McCrimmon, Bravo Co, 1st Bn, 327th Infantry, 25 Apr 1968; Cpl William Slade, 3rd Bn, 9th Marines, 11 Sep 1968. Sgt McCrimmon, Cpl Slade, LCpl Adger, and PFC Hester were classmates all their lives, going through school together at Jonesboro Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School, and Dudley High School. The three Marines and two paratroopers are remembered by their friends on the Dudley High '65 site.

He was the son of Mrs Vasti R. Adger, 817 Best Street, Greensboro, NC.

He served with Kilo Company, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
