PAUL LEONARD CALVERT Obituary

Paul Leonard Calvert, 87, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016. Paul was born in Green Ridge, MO on Sept. 25, 1929 to Forrest L. and Marie McLemore Calvert. He graduated From Green Ridge High School and attended Central Methodist College and graduated in 1951 with a B.S. in Math. He later received an M.S. in Math from Kansas University. While at Fayette, he met Eleanor Louise Rudd and they were married in 1952 in Neosho, MO. After college, Paul served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Ft. Riley in Kansas and Ft. Bragg, NC. After his discharge the Calverts moved to North Kansas City, MO and Paul started his career in education. He briefly worked for the Kansas City Missouri School District before moving to the North Kansas City School District, where he started as a math teacher in 1955 at NKC High School. He held positions as teacher, principal, and administrator for 37 years, serving as the Principal at Maple Park Junior High for 23 years. Paul was a member of the First United Methodist Church in NKC for 62 years. He sang in the Chancel Choir, taught the Keystone Class, attended Men's Club, and served in leadership positions for most of those years. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, playing bridge, church activities and time at the family cabin. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert McLemore Calvert, and sister Ida Jane Calvert. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, one sister Carol Fricke, sons Kenneth (Tricia), Lexington, KY, and Craig (Christina), Piper, KS. Grandchildren Scott L. Calvert, Palm Bay, FL, Craig W. Calvert, South Sudan Africa, Anna C. Calvert and Andrew J. Calvert, Kansas City, Jared E. Winzer and Mary Elizabeth Winzer, Piper, KS. Visitation will be held at the church Wednesday night October26, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm, and Thursday morning October 27th at 10 am., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Central Methodist University.
