Sam was born on March 27, 1949 in Belleville, IL a son to Edward Arkell and Nelita Blanche (Pflasterer) Franklin. On March 26, 1966, he married Cheryl Lynn Clutts and she survives. Sam was of the Baptist faith, was a coal miner for Peabody Coal for over 23 years and was a proud member of the U.M.W.A. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, be outdoors, and was an animal lover. He also dearly loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, four daughters, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, nine sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Sally Lou Ellen Coke and one brother, Richard Juenger.
