William S. Bannon, 81, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Brighton, MA, died at the Catholic Medical Center.

Born to Joseph F. and Helen (McLaughlin) Bannon.

He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Mary E. (McGoldrick) Bannon in 1996. He was the devoted father of five daughters, Judith Duffy of Galway, Ireland, Maureen Farley of Annapolis, MD, Christine McLaughlin of North Andover, MA, Eileen Looney of Mansfield, MA, and Kathleen Keith of North Andover, MA; five sons, Stephen Bannon of Bedford, NH, Kevin Bannon of Nashua, NH, Joseph Bannon and Timothy Bannon, both of Manchester, and Patrick Bannon of Southbury, CT; he will be missed by twenty-four grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Bannon of Watertown, MA, and Robert Bannon of Detroit, MI; two sisters, Ruth Hickey of Palm Harbor, FL, and the late Joanne McGrath of Sun Valley, CA; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He was a graduate of Boston English High School and Boston College. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Army's 94th Infantry Division. Prior to retirement, he had been employed for 40 years as a manager with New England Telephone and more recently as a bailiff at Hillsboro Court. He was a daily communicant and formerly a reader at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Manchester. He held membership in the American Legion, Henry J. Sweeney Post #2, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Raphael Club, the Sierra Club, and other local organizations.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Manchester.
