A Celebration of Life for Dorothy Jean Jefferson will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016 at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Oakdale with Reverend Gregory Craig officiating.

Committal service will follow in the Oakdale Community Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Dorothy, 81, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

She was the daughter of the late Jeff Jefferson and Nettie Gistarb-Washinton, was born March 13, 1935, in Oakdale.

She was the second of her mother’s three children. At a very early age, Dorothy was baptized at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church and remained a loyal member for her entire life. Prior to her passing, she was the oldest surviving member. Dorothy graduated from Allen High School in 1954, where she received an excellent educational foundation. However, because she chose to stay in Oakdale to help care for her mother, she did not pursue a higher education. She was employed as a domestic worker for most of her working career, and was loved by her employers and their children. Many of them considered her to be another family member.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Eddie (E.D.) Washington and Freddie B. Larry-Evans.

Those mourning Dorothy’s departure, yet cherishing their memories of her are: her niece, Patti Evans; nephew, Kenneth Michael Evans; cousins, Rena Mae Gistarb-Fontenot, Rosa Pearl Ledet, Grady Prater and Jimmy Prater; her devoted, God sent friends, Sidney Moton (Aurelia) and Gwen Hosea-Jones (Eddie); as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 8 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m.
