Betty was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Scharmann Harrigan. Her family moved to Delhi, where she graduated from Delaware Academy as well as SUNY Delhi. She was employed by the New York State Electrical and Gas Company in Walton until her husband Thomas and she became the Co-Managers of the Round Up Ranch on Wilson Hollow Road in Downsville. That was her "life" for several years. It was a position that was tailored made for her.
Betty was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her nieces, Barbara and John Black of Tinton Falls, NJ; Patricia Curtin of Slingerlands, NY; her nephews, Charles and Lonnie Markert Jr and Thomas and Julie Markert both of Downsville; her great nieces, Theresa Galvin of Clifton Park, NY; Linda Black Daghita of Haymarket, VA; Renee' Chapman of Fort Bliss, TX; Jessica Markert of Downsville, NY; Mary Jean and Patty McCumpey of Little Rock, AR; and one great nephew, Thomas Markert II of Downsville, NY; and 2 great great nieces, and 7 great great nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday morning at 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Benton Ave., Walton, with her great-nephew, the Rev. John Chadwick, officiating. Burial will follow in Paige Cemetery, Downsville.
