BEVERLY AND WILLY Beverly Georgetta Robertson/Etta Beverly Jones died August 9, 2016 in Chico, CA at the age of 89, after surviving cancer for 10 years. She is survived by her faithful companion Willie, her four daughters and their spouses: Davene Robertson/Ken Hollis, Roxana Hall (Gordon), Denise Devine (Tim), Ramona Robertson/Linda Matteson , 9 grandchildren: Jeff and Margarett Gabrielson, Lindsey Gabrielson, Gavin Hall, Travis Hall, Etta Devine, Jack Devine, Matthew Emmett, Myra Emmett, Lauren and Roger Miller, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way. Beverly was born in Oakland, CA, on February 7, 1927 to Emanuel (England) and Sarah Ethel Jones (Canada). She married David William Robertson on June 21, 1945 in Yuma, AZ. They raised their daughters in Grass Valley, Woodland, Oakland, and San Leandro. They retired to Grass Valley in their dream house designed by Beverly, and finally moving to their home in Chico. Her loving husband David died in 2001. Beverly supported her daughters taking leadership roles in many organizations: PTA, Scouts, Guardian of Jobs Daughters, and Youth for Understanding. She went to college later in life to get her teaching credential and worked in education for 27 years. She took pride being a Native Daughter of the Golden West. In Chico, she was the primary organizer of a senior women's political group called WOW, active in the Democratic Party, and a compassionate"community protector." She and David were Chico Prime Timers. Studying expanded her interests in spirituality, genealogy, health, and nutrition. They traveled throughout their lives: camping and exploring in several states sharing their love for adventure and nature with their daughters. Later they saw the world: China, Australia, Europe, and Africa. Beverly had many qualities we loved: radiance (her smile), confidence, intelligence (math), independence, strength, and humor. Her talents were numerous: cook, artist, designer, seamstress, crafter and gardener. The last 10 years of her life she challenged her disease in a positive way by meditating, exercising, researching, shopping and acupuncture, becoming the "warrior" (to quote a neighbor) she was, sharing her successes with many! We will miss seeing her zooming around in her favorite shopping venues with Willie on front of the electric cart. She loved this community, and her family would like to thank her neighbors and friends for their loving care and help during her life in Chico.
