United States Army Sergeant Walker and five other enlisted men were killed when the bus they were riding enroute to army flying school. Their bus was was struck by a freight train during a snowstorm in Enid, Oklahoma.

Robert is survived by his wife Gertrude [Ryman], baby daughter Carol Ann, and parents, William and Blanche Walker.
